Dog gets tongue stuck in toy, must be amputated

There’s nothing worse than an animal in pain, especially when that pain is inflicted by something that’s supposed to bring your pet joy—his toy.

Chai, a 10-year-old Lab mix, was playing with a Four Paws pimple ball with bell, when his tongue got stuck in the hole in the ball. He had to be taken to the vet to have the ball removed because his tongue was so swollen. Eventually his tongue had to be amputated, making it very difficult for him to eat and drink.

Chai’s parent documented the poor dog’s story on a blog. (Warning, there are some graphic photos). You can watch videos of Chai adjusting to eating and drinking without a tongue as well as find out more information about boycotting the company.

  1. This is a serious – if infrequent – problem with a simple solution:- to stop the vacuum effect drawing in the tongue just have a second hole. Just as Chai’s owner suggests.

  2. I contacted Four Paws about the problem and was told there is a recall. They also told me that this was a manufacturing defect because the toy was designed with two holes but the smaller hole was clogged on the inside. I love their products and think they are stepping up to the plate and being a responsible manufacturer. However, if you have this ball, please check that the holes are not clogged.

  4. WARNING: CUZ almost killed my great dane puppy. Please check out the following site:

On November 22, 2010, Bella, my almost 8 months puppy broke the squeaker of her new toy large Good Cuz and thus a hole was created. This hole turned out to be a powerful vacum and sucked up Bella’s tongue into the small hole. What the Cuz did to my Bella was exactly the same as the Pimple Ball did to Chai. Fortunately, Bella’s tongue is saved but poor Chai’s has been amputated. This whole incident was so distressful which I would not like to repeat it. I have already report the incident to the JW Pet company to request a recall of this dangerous toy from the market. IF THERE IS ALREADY A HOLE IN YOUR CUZ, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE THROW IT ALWAY IMMEDIATELY.

  6. Along with teaching about the stars and animals, this toy creates a
magical atmosphere in the baby’s room, and lulls the baby to
sleep. There are different types of toys not made in china robot toys fit in ever so naturally.
Owners should make toys not made in china sure they
are safe for use and do not tumble easily. If your kid is able to
do start reacting to high-pitched sounds. This has a durable,
hard plastic ring with a ball. Some of these dolls were made of wood.
