Zoo members and visitors, rest assured–it is OK to visit your favorite warthogs, pigs, and other swine-related animals without the fear of catching the swine flu.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the H1N1 virus (commonly known as swine flu) is a human virus that is transfered to swine from humans, not the other way around. So you’re free to visit your friend’s pet pig or the zoo. Of course if you’re experiencing flu symptoms, you should stay away from people and swine to prevent further spread of the virus.
