As the resident Tails panda expert, I couldn’t go without wishing Tai Shan a belated 4th birthday. The panda celebrated his 4th birthday at the National Zoo in Washington, DC on Thursday, July 9, with a giant beet fruitsicle cake.
Tai Shan’s birth in 2005 made headlines, since he was the first baby panda born at the National Zoo that survived more than a few weeks. It’s hard to believe the once cute and cuddly cub is now a 190-lb bear! His birth was documented by Animal Planet in their specials “A Baby Panda is Born” and “Baby Panda’s First Year” (which I may or may not own and watch repetitively).
Tai Shan’s parents, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, are on loan from China, which means Tai Shan might be moving there as part of the agreement.
