APTOPIX Fish Pedicures

Florida sea kittens got some good news this week. The state banned fish pedicures, leaving Florida residents to take a dip in the ocean to get a similar spa treatment.

The trendy spa service uses small, toothless fish to eat the dead skin off of customers’ feet, but it was deemed unhygienic by the Florida Board of Cosmetology. The treatment violates two state laws: one that prohibits animals from salons and another that requires salon “tools” to be sanitized between customers. While the tanks used for the service can be sanitized, the fish can’t be washed.

Fish pedicures have also been banned from Washington, Texas, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

  1. I actually remember seeing this on the news in my area that this fish pedicure isn’t such a good idea, not to mention bad hygiene. I mean, they don’t throw away the fish that they use to do one customer’s pedicure, they use them again and again. What if one of the customer’s have athlete’s foot? It IS contagious you know….Eww. Anyways, this just reminded me of that. 🙂
