Hong Kong pets go for the gold, silver and bow-wowonze

While the spotlight is on Beijing and Michael Phelp’s quest for more medals these days, something different is going on in Hong Kong—the Olympets.

The games are organized by a Hong Kong pet shop and aren’t just limited to dogs (like the Puppy Games on Animal Planet)—the Olympets have rabbit hurdles, parrot rope-climbing, cat agility, and more! So far 400 animals have competed in the heats so far.

The Olympets were started to promote exercise and healthy living for all pets, especially in a highly populated city where many pets don’t get out much.

Though I’m sure the animals don’t have the same drive as Phelps when they go for the gold, it sounds like a fun way to exercise and socialize your pet. Plus winning pets get tiny medals at the end of August! (They’re probably more concerned about the treats).
