There’s been quite the media frenzy surrounding the 44-pound cat found in New Jersey. Type that phrase into a search engine and you’ll get close to 100 results. So far, it’s known that the cat is a male named Powder. The cat lived with a senior citizen who recently became homeless after her home was foreclosed and could no longer care for Powder. The details on how the cat ended up in shelter are blurry at best, but perhaps that isn’t the important detail in this situation. The shelter has received hundreds of applications for the cat’s adoption and whoever does adopt the cat will likely enter a closed adoption to protect their identity. It’s good to hear that Powder will likely find a home with people who can care for him, but I can’t help but wonder about all the other cats in that shelter and across the nation who are not celebrities and may never get adopted.
